Letter From Navina Krishna Dasa (ex. GBC, Finance Minister, and President of the ISKCON Foundation)

Dear Prabhus,
Prabhupada.
Several postings have been made recently about the philosophy
to be used in
understanding the transcendental pastimes of Srila Prabhupada
with respect
to his glorious departure and the simultaneous revelations
about his
caretakers and servants i.e. "The Poison
Issue".
These references and statements certainly shed light on the
sastric
understanding of these pastimes. Those that have been working
on this case
for years have done so because of sastric directives and
understanding, and
not for any other reason. And thus they have studied the
sastras extensively
to understand this lila as well as their duty in dealing with
this matter.
There is much philosophy and sastric directives that could
easily take up a
few hundred pages to fully understand all these pastimes, the
revelations,
instructions, and most importantly the subsequent duties of
those of us
trying to serve Srila Prabhupada in this matter. But one thing
we clearly
understand is that the departure of Srila Prabhupada was a
divine plan of
Lord Krishna meant to glorify His Divine Grace in ways that we
yet do not
fully understand, and that Srila Prabhupada certainly did not
succumb to the
"poison" because the Lord did not protect him. We
also understand the Lord
himself has been dealing with this matter, and will continue to
do so, with
or without the participation of all those that should be coming
to Srila
Prabhupada's aid in this matter.
When we consider the probability that His Divine Grace was
attacked in the
most cowardly and deceptive manner (as the statements of His
Divine Grace in
Nov 1977 and the surrounding evidence suggests), and as has
been repeatedly
concluded by honest followers as well as forensic and homicide
experts, then
the magnitude of the offence committed against Lord Krishna's
dear most
servant is beyond imagination. Beyond imagination also are the
severities of
the reactions awaiting (and some already experienced) for those
that may
have taken part in this gravest of offences and those that
since have
attempted to mislead and cheat others about the known truth of
this matter.
In fact, this attempt by the GBC body and their publications to
mislead
devotees and followers of Srila Prabhupada on this matter was
the primary
cause of my resignation from the GBC body and all my other
responsibilities
in March of 2000.
Although Srila Prabhupada is beyond being offended by this
action, certainly
the Supreme Lord has his plan to deal with the offence, with or
without the
participation of any one of us. The last 27 years have already
shown a great
disintegration of the official Iskcon, with the departure of
large numbers
of souls who had joyfully given their lives to serve the pure
devotee,
countless fall downs of big "topmost" spiritual
leaders, huge lawsuits, a 90
% decrease in book distribution on an annual basis worldwide,
diminished
temple devotee populations in most parts of the world, a huge
loss of faith
and support by our next generation children and life members,
and dozens of
setbacks in many other ways. Certainly there are glorious
examples of
devotional service all over the world but swimming against the
tide and
currents of huge offences makes it a great struggle for many a
sincere soul
to push forward on the spiritual front, personally as well as
an
institution. And the results since 1977 on many an individual
basis as well
as a institutional basis speak for themselves. How can I write
with some
degree of certainty? It was my service for 10 years as a member
of the GBC
body and related duties that the progress of Srila Prabhupada's
mission on
many fronts was compiled and kept in some fashion. Remember,
Srila
Prabhupada wanted reporting on a monthly basis, and we were
trying to make
this a standard on a worldwide basis. So I was well aware of
much of what I
write about above. But, even without the reports, most of these
present
conditions and the history of Iskcon are self evident, at least
to the
truthful observer and participant.
So, in addition to a much deeper understanding of the glories
of His Divine
Grace, this pastime may well reveal the gravest of offences
against his
Divine Grace and the character, motives, ambitions, offences,
policies and
plots of those hoping (in vain) to gain from Srila Prabhupada's
physical
departure. It may help us really understand what went wrong
with His
glorious mission, causing the deterioration that has been
witnessed since
1977, and how perhaps we took part in the wrongdoings. It may
help us
understand what we must do now to save Srila Prabhupada's
mission and
ourselves, and what Srila Prabhupada's plans really are for us
to serve him.
As far the future of the ' THE POISON ISSUE", there are
clear and definite
duties for us, which are very difficult to carry out if there
is attachment
for position, power, fame, financial support or any other
benefit from the
official Iskcon, whose leaders for the most part have taken
such a
misleading stance on the issue. We have seen many supporters
and believers
in this issue come and go in the last several years, because
they could not
handle the corporate pressures and the risk of loss of benefits
from Iskcon.
But many loyal followers of His Divine Grace now outside the
institution are
at least trying to act in an honest and truthful way regarding
this matter, so
that their participation and support of offences against His
Divine Grace in
the past, unknowing or knowing, is rectified and that they may
be useful
instruments of service to Srila Prabhupada.
That is the fervent prayer and hope of hundreds and thousands
of followers
of Srila Prabhupada who are in some way or the other supporting
the
uncovering of this probable offence. Thus, they are trying to
understand who
and what to support, and who and what to abandon, in their
attempts to
obtain forgiveness from The Supreme Personality of Godhead and
from Srila
Prabhupada and the previous acaryas in our disciplic
succession, and to gain
the pleasure of His Divine Loving Grace Srila Prabhupada.
Praying for eternal shelter at Srila Prabhupada's lotus feet.
Your servant,
Navina Krishna dasa
